Subject: Should I pursue a degree?

Hi, I’m currently a freshman in college pursuing a degree in Environmental Sciences. I was hoping to use it the knowledge I obtain to do honorable work for God. Is God against Christians attending college? If not, what are some suitable jobs or career paths for Christians without college? Thanks!

Hi Javaun,

You’ve asked some worthwhile questions. We appreciate that. Too many people aren’t asking, many of them professing faith in Christ. After all, how we treat the environment is a matter of life and death before God:

“And the nations were full of wrath, and Your wrath came, and the time of the judging of the dead, and to give the reward to Your servants the prophets, and to the saints, and to the ones fearing Your Name, to the small and to the great, and to destroy those destroying the earth” (Revelation 11:18 MKJV).

Do you have any concrete ideas about what you’d do with a degree in “Environmental Studies”?

To help you determine the course you take from here, read and consider the following writings and get back to us with your conclusions and any follow up questions:

It might be wise to investigate sources of your college’s finances. Who are the contributors and what is their influence? There’s environmental science and then there’s environmental science.

For example, what’s your take on so-called “global warming?” Is it caused by man or is it a natural cycle that ebbs and flows? What positions are environmental scientists taking on this issue? Are their analyses and proposed solutions wise or foolish? Truth be told, conventional science is very corrupt in both theory and application.

Consider GMO’s, pharmaceuticals, industrial/chemical agriculture, food irradiation, nanotechnology, conventional food production, processing, and distribution, energy production (even “green”), and artificial water fluoridation.

Is college necessary to make a good, honest, rewarding, perhaps even a lucrative, living? Not at all. Is conventional college the way to go? That depends.
