Which Translation, Which Denomination?

GOOD DAY.  JUST FOUND YOUR WEB SITE, VERY INTERESTING.   THANK YOU.

I HAVE A QUESTION, WHICH BIBLE TRANSLATION IS THE CORRECT VERSION, THERE ARE SO MANY ON THE MARKET TODAY.  VERY DIFFICULT TO SUGGEST WHICH ONE IS SUITABLE FOR A NEW CHRISTIAN. (ESPECIALLY A CHILD, TEEN OR YOUNG ADULT)

I USE THE KJV.  BUT WHEN, I LOOK THROUGH THE VARIOUS VERSIONS, I AM AMAZED HOW DIFFERENT THEY CAN BE FROM EACH OTHER, IT MAY BE A WORD HERE AND THERE, WHICH CAN CHANGE A WHOLE MEANING,( I DONT MEAN THE NWT)  OR AS IN THE NIV. THERE ARE EVEN PASSAGES OF SCRIPTURES MISSING, COMPARED TO THE KJV.    I WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR ANSWER TO THIS QUESTION.  THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR TIME.

HELENA.

Hi Helena,

There is no altogether correct version of the Bible. All existing translations and interpretations have errors and various issues, some less than others and some far more than others.

That’s why we quote from different Bibles on our site. Not only do we seek to avoid errors or misstatements coming from any translation, but we also look for the version bringing the words across in the most vital way given the context of what’s being taught. The Word of God is living.

“It is the Spirit that makes alive, the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit and are life” (John 6:63 MKJV).

There are many Bibliolaters in the world today, a form of idolatry that worships the letter rather than the Author and brings death to the idolaters and those who follow them. Worship of anything other than the Lord is always self-serving and without light. That’s how the Lord spoke to the Jews who crucified Him about their idolatry of the Scriptures:

“You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life. And they are the ones witnessing of Me, and you will not come to Me that you might have life” (John 5:39-40 MKJV).

What you need isn’t the perfect Bible, Helena, but a life-giving relationship with the Perfect One Who authored the Bible, the Word of God made flesh. He informs us of all truth by His Spirit:

“However, when He, the Spirit of Truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth. For He shall not speak of Himself, but whatever He hears, He shall speak. And He will announce to you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will receive of Mine and will announce it to you” (John 16:13-14 MKJV).

Luther was wrong in saying “Sola Scriptura,” because our faith is “Sola Christ.” And believing Him, we receive ministry from His Body that is one with Him. As part of His Body, we bring you His Words and Life, if you can receive it from Him.

What are you finding in the writings on our site, and what we teach from the Bible?

None of this is to say that you shouldn’t take care in what Bible you read, but the King James is a fairly good translation, compared to what else is available. We have outlined some of the errors and issues you’ll find there: Is the King James Authorized Version the Perfect Word of God?

We have also examined some other errors and problems found in most Bible versions in the Gospel accounts:

The Book of Matthew Corrupted
The Book of Luke Corrupted: A Deathbed Conversion Tale
The Book and Letters of John Corrupted

I’m thankful we’re able to use and compare many Bible versions on our computers by using E-Sword, a free Bible program available at https://www.e-sword.net/. You may find this tool handy as well.

I live in Helena, Montana (USA), by the way, a name most people in our country who aren’t from around here don’t pronounce correctly. (It’s “Helen” with an “a” at the end, and not “Helene” with an “a.”). Tell us more about yourself, Helena, if you would like to share, especially your spiritual journey and what the Lord has done in your life.

Helena, there is only one true Church or Assembly of God, which isn’t any denomination or work of men, but is the unseen (to the carnal eye) spiritual Body of Christ, composed of all who walk with Him on earth and in the next realm. Read The Church.

This passage from Hebrews describes the true Church and its members:

Hebrews 12:22-29 MKJV
(22)  But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
(23)  to the general assembly and church of the first-born who are written in Heaven, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
(24)  and to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.
(25)  See that you do not refuse Him who speaks. For if they did not escape, those who refused him that spoke on earth, much more we shall not escape if we turn away from Him who speaks from Heaven,
(26)  whose voice then shook the earth; but now He has promised, saying, “Yet once more I will not only shake the earth, but also the heavens.”
(27)  And this word, “Yet once more,” signifies the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that have been made, so that the things which cannot be shaken may remain.
(28)  Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear,
(29)  for also, “Our God is a consuming fire.”

Also read The Case for Coming Out, which explains how the Body of Christ is separate from the works of men. Perhaps you already know something about this, as your own story sounds familiar.

As for Bible translations, denominations and the religious works of men often create their own versions, though not so much the other way around. Some translations are blatantly perverted by the doctrines of the group, like the New World Translation of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.

The best translations are created by those who try to let the Bible speak for itself.

William Tyndale (a true believer martyred in the faith) was such a translator, and by his work provided much of the basis for the King James Version. The latter was worked on by a group of translators that included Puritans and members of the Church of England. With Tyndale’s work in hand and the diverse group to keep each other in check, the work is mostly free of taint, except for falsehoods already snuck into the ancient manuscripts from which they were translating.

I put this letter in caps for easier reading, as I take it that’s why you’ve been capping yours.
