I stumbled upon your website while searching for answers. I liked what I read. I am currently going through a painful time and I need advice and spiritual help. my husband of 24 years walked in one day and announced he was leaving me. I am devastated. the hurt is more than I can bear. I need spiritual help and no one seems to know what to tell me. I appreciate anything you can tell me. thank you so much!

Hi Denita,

The first thing you need to know and believe is that the Lord is over all, and nothing happens except according to His will. We either need or deserve what comes our way (or both). So you can be perfectly confident, even in your turmoil and hurt, that God is in charge and if you look to Him for what He would have you do, it will all work out for good as you follow Him. This is guaranteed:

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28 MKJV).

The natural human response in hard circumstances is to look to God to do what you want, but the right response by faith is to look to Him for what HE wants, which is the right thing to do (“Your will, not mine” – which is always for the good of all). Denita, it’s the only prayer that ultimately prevails with God.

We hear how David sought the Lord for the cause of the ongoing famine in his days as king:

“Now there was a famine in the days of David for three years, year after year. And David sought the face of the LORD. And the LORD said, ‘There is bloodguilt on Saul and on his house, because he put the Gibeonites to death’” (2 Samuel 21:1 ESV).

David inquired of the Lord instead of trying to direct Him. God isn’t a genie who makes bad things go away, but a Savior Who gives us faith to know and carry out the proper response in any situation, and in the process satisfies our true inner needs. To walk in faith is a great honor and privilege, because in this way we’re formed in His image.

So begin to look up and give thanks, acknowledging the Lord as Sovereign and the only One you need to satisfy. You don’t need to satisfy yourself. In looking to and following the Lord Jesus Christ, He will satisfy you.

“Whoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it, and whoever shall lose his life shall preserve it” (Luke 17:33 MKJV).

It certainly doesn’t look or feel like it presently; we understand, but this situation is a godsend, if it causes you to look to the Lord.

Tell us more about your spiritual background, your husband’s, your lives together, and where you’re at in your walk with the Lord, as much as you can say about these things. Lord willing, we’ll have more to say. Nothing is too hard for Him. Indeed, everything is put to the very best use by Him.
