Correspondence with Rick Burley
Correspondence with Rick Burley     Rick Burley sent us an email on May 31, 2005,  responding to “The Issues of Life.” The Subject Line of his letter asked: “Are you ready?” Hello Paul,  If you want to continue to send me your email blurb about your religious beliefs, then you must then be ready to meet.   You obviously are passionate about something, although for the life of me, I don't know what that is…yet. So come and look me in the eye and tell me.  You seem fearless in your writing and your advertising.   Are you fearless in real life?  Meet me.  Name the place and time.  I have previous commitments already set this week so suggest a week or two from now.   Say, Monday morning the 13th of June or the afternoon of Tuesday the 14th?  Let me know, and I’ll meet with you.  If you aren’t up to it, then take me off your email list.  Simple.  Clean.  Obvious.  With great respect, I remain, Rick Burley Paul wrote back: Hi Rick, We have no problem meeting with you face to face. However, I live in Helena, and am also quite busy, as is Victor in Canada. How about we meet at Victor's farm, in Lethbridge? The first weekend of July would work well for us, Saturday the 2nd, sometime in the early afternoon, would be optimal. How would that work for you? Let me know and I will confirm with all there and get back to you. If another time around that weekend is better, we will see what we can do. If you wish to...

Page 19 PART ONE – Darkness to Light (cont.) Particle – John R. Rice The Sword of the Lord was a publication that stirred up considerable controversy among the evangelicals in the early seventies. John R. Rice was bombastic, lambasting evangelicals. I recall them saying he was a brother, but not very loving or Christlike. I didn't know what to make of Mr. Rice. Though he stood out as different among evangelicals, I was not drawn to his teaching. Particle – Heeding Head or Heart The issue was never a matter of doctrine to me so much as spirit and life. My guidelines for choosing my teachers seemed different than those of most others. I was led more by the strings of the heart than by the chains of the head or denominational partisanship, though I didn't know it. Particle – Lukewarm Lambs, Likewise Leaders Members of the Alliance Church once talked of how a visiting preacher confronted a congregation. He asked, “How many people here hate God?” No hands went up. “How many people are on absolute fire for God, willing to do anything for Him?” Very few, if any, hands went up. Finally, he asked, “How many are somewhere in between?” There was a great show of hands. He then had them open their Bibles to the following passage: “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I would that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth” (Revelation 3:15-16 MKJV). The fellow telling the story (himself an or...
Letter to Evan Yurkoski
PART NINE - Signs Of New Times (cont.)     TO: Evan Yurkoski From : Victor Hafichuk                                                                                  December 17, 2000 Evan, I'm sorry you left, and left as you did.  Paul mentioned the article called "Christians and Conspiracy Theories ‑‑ A Call to Repentance" by a believer on the Net. We read it after you left and found it very appropriate, applicable to our situation. I very much appreciated what he had to say and it was very true, Biblically sound, well documented and I would say...wise.  I will not get into what he had to say so much as quote some of the more pointed Scriptures he offered: "Do not call conspiracy everything that these people call conspiracy, do not fear what they fear, and do not dread it. The Lord Almighty is the One you are to regard as holy, He is the one you are to fear, He is the One you are to dread " (Isaiah 8:12,13).     We are not burying our heads in the sand as you have seen others do, Evan. We are not afra...
