How Do I know the Truth Without the Holy Spirit?

I visit your site often and wondered if it is not possible for you to list those teachers that are teaching the truth. What about Harold Hill for instance. There is such a vast amount of material out there and ones time is limited.

Kind regards
Andries

There aren’t any true teachers out there today, Andries.

Aren’t you beginning to see this as you read on our site during your oft visits? We encourage you to read more, as much as you can. It’s all there, given by the Lord Himself, as Paul said of the Gospel he preached:

“For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but through the revelation of Jesus Christ” (Galatians 1:12 EMTV).

If you can receive from the Lord that there aren’t any other teachers sent by Him today, you’ll be saved much more than time. Your soul will be saved from the confusion and destruction of false gospels and lies preached in Christ’s Name.

Victor and his wife (Marilyn) were kept safe from the works of men, the paths of the destroyer, in their early walk with the Lord back in the ‘70’s. He kept them from the Charismatic Movement, a counterfeit activity of the enemy imitating the true works of the Holy Spirit. He kept them from enjoyable and attractive peddlers like Harold Hill who preached another Jesus and another gospel. Hill was very popular with men because it was their approval he sought, not God’s. Hill wasn’t approved or sent by God:

“And He said to them, You are those who justify yourselves before men, but God knows your hearts. For that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God” (Luke 16:15 MKJV).

Hill made Christianity sound popular and enticing. The way of the cross of Christ calls for death, not pleasure, although true Heavenly substantial pleasure comes when one identifies with Jesus Christ and receives His resurrection life in this world. (See The Cross – Only the Death Sentence Will Avail.)

Hill reminds us of current popular preachers and writers we’ve posted in our False Teachers section, who have taken his general mindset and run with it. You may find our writings on Jesse Duplantis (My God Is a Sugar Daddy) Andrew Wommack (God Is Sovereign: Man Is Presumptuous) particularly appropriate and helpful.

Let us know if you have questions or need help finding anything, Andries.

Thanks Paul,

I appreciate your feedback and I am sure we will correspond some more in the future. Like many other I am trying to find my way through the maze of deception. Some deceptions are fairly easy to spot and others not. I have 2 burning questions for which I need some guidance. If the answers are somewhere on your website please send me the path:

Firstly: I was reading about baptism in the Holy Spirit on your website. How does one know the truth from the lie if you need to be baptised with the Holy Spirit first and receive he gift of Discerning of Spirits. God hand out these gifts in according to His will and even with the Holy Spirit you may not receive this gift. How can I, who may not be baptised with the Holy Spirit know may way if I don’t have the Holy Spirit to guide me to stay on the right path. Hope it makes sense what I am asking. I am truly lost.

Secondly: If one has a look around today to the people around you, it seems everyone is “all for themselves” and it is sort of the norm. From the Garden of Eden it is estimated that 108 billion people lived on this earth. From my general observation one can easily assume that less than 10% (or even less) was saved before they died. Has the devil won (or at least with the odds)? Are more lost than are saved? English is my second language and I read my bible I my mother/native language. See the attached document. Is it really possible that one’s Bible can be corrupted trough translation? God is always in control, why would He allow the innocent to start off with a deceived and corrupted view of Him? I am frustrated that all is questioned and in my search for truth I only get more questions and not answers. This is mainly my reason for asking you about the list of teachers of the truth.

Kind regards,
Andries

Hi Andries,

You’re asking sensible questions that need to be answered. You wonder about discerning the right way.

Jesus Christ is your Savior, not you. You need to have faith in Him and not in yourself to have faith in Him. Faith is a gift of God – What Is Faith?. He retrieves lost sheep. He draws men to Himself. It’s not our work:

Ephesians 2:8-10 MKJV
(8)  For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God,
(9)  not of works, lest anyone should boast.
(10)  For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to good works, which God has before ordained that we should walk in them.

John 10:27-29 MKJV
(27)  My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
(28)  And I give to them eternal life, and they shall never ever perish, and not anyone shall pluck them out of My hand.
(29)  My Father Who gave them to Me is greater than all, and no one is able to pluck them out of My Father’s hand.

Everyone who receives the Spirit has all the gifts, including discernment. But before you receive the Spirit with the gifts, you need to be obedient to the Lord in the things you know are required, the do’s and don’ts, even as Jesus said to the rich young ruler:

Luke 18:18-22 MKJV
(18)  And a certain ruler asked Him, saying, Good Teacher, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?
(19)  And Jesus said to him, Why do you call Me good? None is good except One, God.
(20)  You know the commandments: Do not commit adultery, do not kill, do not steal, do not bear false witness, honor your father and your mother.
(21)  And he said, I have kept all these from my youth up.
(22)  And when Jesus heard these things, He said to him, Yet you lack one thing. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you shall have treasure in Heaven. And come, follow Me.

Romans 10:11-13 MKJV
(11)  For the Scripture says, “Everyone believing on Him shall not be put to shame.”
(12)  For there is no difference both of Jew and of Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call on Him.
(13)  For everyone, “whoever shall call on the Name of the Lord will be saved.”

You may not have received the Holy Spirit, but it doesn’t mean He doesn’t guide you. If you are seeking after the Lord, recognizing your lostness, it’s because He is already guiding you. Consider others around you and recognize that they really couldn’t care less. Why? Because He isn’t calling them, but He IS calling you. And whom He calls, He will draw to Himself as you are drawn.
